WITKO’S NEW ECOSTRETCH™ PACK CALLS
ON CORN TO SATISFY PUBLIC, OPEN DOORS TO RETAILERS
Witko goes PVC-free with corn-based, compostable EarthFirst®
PLA film
WOLCOTT, IND., September 18, 2006 - - As consumers and retailers
look for more earth-friendly packaging options, Witko, Inc.,
has introduced a high impact, PVC-free package that may soon
have corn futures buzzing on the Chicago Mercantile. |
|
The new pack is called EcoStretch™, a “next generation”
carded package that provides maximum shelf appeal and point-of-purchase
impact by combining a printed die-cut card with a fully compostable
corn-based film called EarthFirst® PLA film. Produced by Plastic
Suppliers, EarthFirst PLA film delivers the clarity consumer products
companies, retailers and consumers demand; is PVC-free and when
composted, breaks down into carbon dioxide and water.

Witko’s “Easy Tear” Opening Feature Is the Perfect
Solution for Seniors and Others Who Need Easy-open Packaging
Witko’s Stretch Pak is sought after by companies
because it provides a superior presentation of their product. However,
packaging can be a challenge for some to open. Seniors, people with
arthritis, and even some younger people need Easy Open features.
Recognizing the opportunity for “user friendly” packaging,
Witko developed the patented Easy Open feature for Stretch Pak.
The package’s card and film are perforated in register to
make it easy to tear open the card and remove the product. Even
with the Easy Open perforation, Witko’s Stretch Pak retains
the tamper evident benefit. Even though the Easy Open feature adds
little cost to the overall package, it delivers tremendous value
to companies marketing products to seniors and others with physical
limitations in terms of user convenience and is an important point
of differentiation.

| The Stretch Pak with Easy Open earned Witko a DuPont
Award for Innovation in Packaging Technology, an international awards
competition. The national Arthritis Foundation also has recognized
the package for its ease of use. |
